Sahih al-Bukhari 2475 (Book 46, Hadith 36) #2370
Sins and Belief

SUMMARY: A person who commits sins such as adultery, drinking alcohol, stealing or robbing is not a believer at the time of committing those sins.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "When an adulterer commits illegal sexual intercourse, then he is not a believer at the time, he is doing it, and when a drinker of an alcoholic liquor drinks it, then he is not a believer at the time of drinking it, and when a thief steals, then he is not a believer at the time of stealing, and when a robber robs, and the people look at him, then he is not a believer at the time of doing robbery.

QUICK LESSONS:
Repent for your sins immediately after committing them and ask for forgiveness from Allah SWT. Avoid committing major sins like adultery, drinking alcohol etc., so your faith remains intact.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Abu Huraira and it talks about how a person's belief can be affected by their actions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if someone commits any of the major sins such as adultery, drinking alcohol, stealing or robbing then they are not considered believers at the time of committing these acts. This hadith serves as a reminder to all Muslims that our actions have consequences and we should strive to stay away from any kind of sin in order to remain true believers in Allah SWT. It also teaches us that even if we do commit any kind of sin, we should repent for it immediately and ask for forgiveness from Allah SWT so that our faith remains intact.
