Prohibiting Robbery and Mutilation

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade taking away what belongs to others without their permission and maiming of bodies.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Yazid Al-Ansari: The Prophet forbade robbery (taking away what belongs to others without their permission), and also forbade mutilation (or maiming) of bodies.
حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ، سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ الأَنْصَارِيّ َ ـ وَهُوَ جَدُّهُ أَبُو أُمِّهِ ـ قَالَ نَهَى النَّبِيُّ عَنِ النُّهْبَى وَالْمُثْلَةِ‏.‏

This hadith is about the prohibition of robbery and mutilation. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that it is wrong to take away what belongs to others without their permission, as well as maiming or harming other people's bodies in any way. This hadith teaches us that we should respect the property of others, as well as not harm them physically or emotionally in any way. We should also be kind and generous with our possessions, so that we can help those who are less fortunate than us.
