Sunan Abi Dawud 2955 (Book 20, Hadith 28) #23245
Responsibility for Dependents After Death

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that if someone dies and leaves behind property, it will go to their heirs. If they leave behind dependents without resources, then the responsibility of taking care of them falls on the community.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah as saying: If anyone leaves property, it goes to his heirs. And if anyone leaves dependents (without resources), they come to us.

QUICK LESSONS:
Take collective responsibility towards those in need; Help those less fortunate than ourselves; Take care of dependants after death; Provide both financial and emotional support for dependants.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the importance of taking responsibility for those who are left behind after a person passes away. According to this hadith, if someone dies and leaves behind property or wealth, it will go to their heirs according to Islamic law. However, if they leave behind dependents without resources or means of support, then it is up to the community as a whole to take care of them. This shows us that we have a collective responsibility towards those in need in our society and that we should strive to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
