Responsibility for Debt and Dependents

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ is responsible for taking care of the debt and dependents of those who have passed away.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet said: I am nearer to the believers than themselves, so if anyone leaves property, it goes to his heirs, and if anyone leaves debt and dependents, let the matter come to me and I shall be responsible.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the responsibility that believers have to take care of each other. It is narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah, who was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. In this hadith, it is mentioned that if someone passes away leaving behind property or debt and dependents, then it is up to the Prophet ﷺ to take responsibility for them. This shows us how important it is for believers to look after each other in times of need, as well as how much responsibility we should be willing to take on when someone passes away. We should also remember that even though we may not be able to provide financial support or assistance in such situations, we can still offer emotional support and comfort during difficult times.
