Sunan Abi Dawud 2867 (Book 18, Hadith 6) #23157
The Consequences of Last Minute Sins

SUMMARY: Doing good deeds for a long time does not guarantee salvation if one commits a sin before death.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: A man or a woman acts in obedience to Allah for sixty years, then when they are about to die they cause injury by their will, so they must go to Hell. Then AbuHurayrah recited: "After a legacy which you bequeath or a debt, causing no injury.that will be the mighty success. Abu Dawud said: Al-Ash'ath b. Jabir is the grandfather of Nasr b. 'Ali.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of committing sins at the end of one's life, even after doing good deeds for many years. It was narrated by AbuHurayrah, who said that Prophet Muhammad said that if someone acts in obedience to Allah for sixty years and then causes injury by their will before they die, they must go to Hell. He then recited a verse from the Quran which states that after leaving a legacy or debt, causing no injury is the mighty success. This hadith teaches us that we should be careful not to commit any sins at the end of our lives as it can lead us to punishment in Hell despite all our good deeds throughout our lives. We should strive to do good until our last breath and avoid any kind of sinning so we can be successful in this world and hereafter.
