Sacrifice of Animals in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised to sacrifice a full-grown animal for religious purposes, unless it is difficult to do so, in which case a lamb can be sacrificed.

Narrated Jabir: The Messenger of Allah as saying: Sacrifice only a full-grown animal unless it is difficult for you, in which case sacrifice a lamb.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي شُعَيْبٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ لاَ تَذْبَحُوا إِلاَّ مُسِنَّةً إِلاَّ أَنْ يَعْسُرَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَذْبَحُوا جَذَعَةً مِنَ الضَّأْنِ

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advises Muslims on how to perform the religious practice of sacrificing animals. He states that one should sacrifice a full-grown animal if possible, but if it is too difficult then one can sacrifice a lamb instead. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive to do our best and put forth our greatest effort when performing religious practices. It also shows us that Allah SWT understands our limitations and will accept whatever we are able to give with sincerity and devotion. Furthermore, this hadith reminds us of the importance of following Islamic teachings even when they may seem difficult or challenging at times.
