Sunan Abi Dawud 2533 (Book 15, Hadith 57) #22824
Obligation to Pray and Strive in the Path of Allah

SUMMARY: Striving in the path of Allah is obligatory for all Muslims, regardless of their piety or lack thereof. Praying behind any believer is also obligatory, even if they commit grave sins. The same applies to offering funeral prayers for any Muslim, regardless of their sins.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: Striving in the path of Allah (jihad) is incumbent on you along with every ruler, whether he is pious or impious; the prayer is obligatory on you behind every believer, pious or impious, even if he commits grave sins; the (funeral) prayer is incumbent upon every Muslim, pious and impious, even if he commits major sins.
