The Choice of Barirah

SUMMARY: The Prophet gave a woman the choice to stay with her husband, even though he was a slave, and she chose to stay with him.

While relating the tradition about Barirah A’ishah said "her husband was a slave, so the Prophet gave her choice. She chose herself. Had he been a free man, he would not given her choice".
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، فِي قِصَّةِ بَرِيرَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ زَوْجُهَا عَبْدًا فَخَيَّرَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فَاخْتَارَتْ نَفْسَهَا وَلَوْ كَانَ حُرًّا لَمْ يُخَيِّرْهَا

This hadith is about the Prophet giving Barirah, a woman, the choice to stay with her husband or not. Even though her husband was a slave, the Prophet still gave her this choice. She chose to stay with him despite his status as a slave. This hadith teaches us that everyone should be given freedom of choice and that marriage should be based on mutual respect and understanding regardless of social status or wealth. It also shows us that we should always strive for justice in our relationships and interactions with others.
