Throwing Pebbles at the Jamrah

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was throwing pebbles at the Jamrah while riding on a camel and he instructed people to throw small pebbles and not to kill each other.

Narrated Sulaiman b. 'Amr b. al-Ahwas: On the authority of his mother: I saw the Messenger of Allah throwing pebbles at the Jamrah from the bottom of wadi (valley) while he was riding (on a camel). He was uttering the takbir (Allah is most great) with each pebble. A man behind him was shading him. I asked about the man. They (the people) said: He is al-Fadl b. al-'Abbas. The people crowded. The Prophet said: 'O people, do not kill each other ; when you throw pebbled at the Jamrah, throw small pebbles.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow instructions given by knowledgeable people regarding religious matters .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about an event that happened during the pilgrimage of Hajj, when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was throwing pebbles at the Jamrah while riding on a camel. He was also uttering ‘takbir’ with each pebble he threw, which means saying ‘Allah is most great’ in Arabic. Al-Fadl b. al-'Abbas was shading him from behind and people were crowded around them. The Prophet ﷺ then instructed them not to kill each other and to throw small pebbles instead of big ones when they were throwing them at the Jamrah as part of their pilgrimage ritual. This hadith teaches us that we should be respectful towards others during our religious rituals, even if there are large crowds or if we are in a hurry to complete our rituals quickly; we should still take care not to hurt anyone else or cause any harm in any way while performing our religious duties. It also teaches us that it is important for us to follow instructions given by those who have more knowledge than us about religious matters so that we can perform our rituals correctly without causing any harm or disruption for others around us who may be performing their own rituals too.
