Three Practices for Travelling and Resident

SUMMARY: The Prophet instructed Abu Hurairah to observe three practices while travelling or resident, which are praying two rak'ahs in the forenoon, fasting three days every month and observing witr before sleeping.

Abu Hurairah said: My friend (ie the Prophet) instructed me to observe three practices that I do not leave while traveling nor while resident, to pray two rak'ahs in the forenoon, to fast three days every month and not to sleep but after observing the witr.

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray two rak'ahs in the forenoon , Fast three days every month , Observe witr before sleeping .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah states that the Prophet instructed him to observe three practices while travelling or resident. These include praying two rak'ahs in the forenoon, fasting three days every month and observing witr before sleeping. Praying two rak'ahs in the forenoon is a form of voluntary prayer that can be done at any time during the day but is recommended to be done after sunrise until noon. Fasting for three days every month is also a voluntary act of worship that can be done on any day of the month but it is recommended to fast on Mondays and Thursdays as well as 13th, 14th and 15th of each Islamic lunar month. Lastly, witr prayer is an obligatory prayer performed at night after Ishaa’ prayer with an odd number of Rak’ahs from one up to eleven Rak’ahs with recitation in each Rak’ah. This hadith teaches us about important acts of worship that should not be neglected even when we are travelling or living our daily lives as Muslims.
