Sunan Abi Dawud 1373 (Book 6, Hadith 3) #21665
Refraining from Making Tarawih Obligatory

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was concerned that the people would make the Tarawih prayer obligatory, so he refrained from leading it on the third night.

Narrated 'Aishah, wife of Prophet : That the Prophet once offered (tarawih) prayer in the mosque and the people also prayed along with him. He then prayed on the following night, and the people gathered in large numbers. They gathered on the third night too, but the Messenger of Allah did not come out to them. When the morning came, he said: I witnessed what you did, and nothing prevented me from coming out to you except that I feared that this (prayer) might be prescribed to you. That was in Ramadan.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was concerned that people would make the Tarawih prayer obligatory during Ramadan. He did not want to lead it on the third night because he feared that this prayer might be prescribed to them and become an obligation. This shows us how much care and consideration he had for his followers, as he wanted to ensure they were not burdened with too many religious obligations. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions and think carefully before making something compulsory for others. We should always strive to do what is best for those around us and take into account their feelings and circumstances before making decisions or imposing rules upon them.
