Sunan Abi Dawud 830 (Book 2, Hadith 440) #21121
Reciting the Quran with Intention

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged people to recite the Quran and warned them of those who would recite it quickly for worldly gain.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Messenger of Allah came to us while we were reciting the Qur'an, and there were among us bedouins and the non-Arabs. He said: Recite, all is well. In the near future there will appear people who will straighten it (the Qur'an) as an arrow is straightened. They will recite it quickly and not slowly (or it means that they will get the reward in this world and not in the Hereafter).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about reciting the Qur’an with intention. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) came to a group of people who were reciting the Qur’an and he said “Recite all is well”. He then warned them of those who will come in the future that will recite it quickly for worldly gain instead of spiritual reward. This hadith encourages us to take our time when we are reciting the Qur’an so that we can understand its meaning and benefit from its teachings. It also reminds us that if we do not have good intentions when reading or listening to it, then our actions are meaningless and will not be rewarded by Allah SWT in this life or in the hereafter.
