Sunan Abi Dawud 399 (Book 2, Hadith 9) #20690
Praying in Intense Heat

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Jabir ibn Abdullah's experience of praying in the intense heat and how he used gravels to cool his forehead while prostrating.

Narrated Jabir ibn Abdullah: I would offer my noon prayer with the Messenger of Allah and took a handful of gravels so that they might become cold in my hand and I placed them (before me) so that I may put my forehead on them at the time when I would prostrate. I did this due to the intensity of heat.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah talks about the intensity of heat during prayer and how he used gravels to cool his forehead while prostrating. He took a handful of gravels so that they might become cold in his hand and placed them before him so that he could put his forehead on them at the time when he would prostrate. This shows us that even though it was difficult for him to pray due to the extreme heat, he still persevered and found a way to make it easier for himself. It teaches us that we should never give up on our prayers no matter what obstacles come our way. We should always strive to find ways around any difficulties we face while performing our religious duties as Muslims.
