QUICK LESSONS:
Abstain from certain items of adornment and drink .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) taught his followers to abstain from certain items of adornment and drink. In this hadith, 'Ali reported that the Prophet forbade him from wearing gold rings, red al-miyathir, and drinking al-ji'ah. Gold rings were seen as a sign of wealth or status in society which could lead to feelings of superiority or arrogance. Similarly, red al miyathir was a type of clothing worn by wealthy people in the past which could also lead to feelings of pride or vanity. Lastly, al ji’ah was an alcoholic beverage which is forbidden in Islam due to its intoxicating effects on the mind and body. This hadith teaches us that we should be humble in our dress and behavior so as not to give off any impression that we are better than others around us. We should also avoid anything that can harm our physical health such as alcohol consumption or other intoxicants.
