Sahih al-Bukhari 2035 (Book 33, Hadith 10) #1952
Protecting Against Evil Thoughts

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was concerned that Satan might insert an evil thought in the minds of two Ansari men when they saw his wife Safiya.

Narrated 'Ali bin Al-Husain: Safiya, the wife of the Prophet told me that she went to Allah's Messenger to visit him in the mosque while he was in I'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. She had a talk with him for a while, then she got up in order to return home. The Prophet accompanied her. When they reached the gate of the mosque, opposite the door of Um-Salama, two Ansari men were passing by and they greeted Allah's Apostle . He told them: Do not run away! And said, "She is (my wife) Safiya bint Huyai". Both of them said, "Subhan Allah, (How dare we think of any evil) O Allah's Messenger !" And they felt it. The Prophet said (to them), "Satan reaches everywhere in the human body as blood reaches in it, (everywhere in one's body). I was afraid lest Satan might insert an evil thought in your minds".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of protecting oneself from evil thoughts. It is narrated by Ali bin Al-Husain that Safiya, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ went to visit him while he was in I'tikaf during Ramadan. When they reached the gate of the mosque, two Ansari men were passing by and greeted Allah's Apostle ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ warned them not to run away and said she was his wife Safiya bint Huyai. He then explained that Satan reaches everywhere in a human body as blood does and he feared lest Satan might insert an evil thought into their minds. This hadith teaches us to be mindful of our thoughts and guard ourselves against any negative or harmful ideas that may come from Shaytan or our own desires. We should strive to fill our hearts with good deeds and positive intentions so we can protect ourselves from any harm or danger caused by Shaytan’s whispers or temptations.
