Retaliation or Ransom?

SUMMARY: A person has the choice to either retaliate or take ransom if their relative is killed.

Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'If a person's relative is killed, he has the choice of two things: Either he may retaliate, or he may take the ransom"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic Law, Show Mercy & Compassion Towards Others Even When Wronged By Them

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a person's right to choose between retaliation and ransom when their relative is killed. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that a person has the right to choose between two options in this situation. The first option is retaliation, which means that the killer must be punished in the same way as they punished your relative. The second option is taking a ransom, which means that you can accept money from the killer instead of punishing them for what they did. Both of these options are allowed according to Islamic law and it's up to each individual person to decide which one they want to do in this situation. It's important for us all to remember that we should always try our best not only follow Islamic law but also show mercy and compassion towards others even when we have been wronged by them.
