Sunan an-Nasai 4653 (Book 44, Hadith 205) #19186
Charity Begins at Home

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad encouraged people to start with themselves when it comes to charity and giving, and if there is anything left over, they should give it to their dependents, relatives, and others.

It was narrated from Jabir that: a man from among the Ansar who was called Abu (Madhkur) stated that a slave of his who was called Ya'qub was to be set free after he died, and he did not own any other property apart from him. The Messenger of Allah called for him (the slave) to be brought and he said: "Who will buy him?" Nu'aim bin 'Abdullah bought him for eight hundred Dirhams, and he gave it to him and said: "If one of you is poor, let him start with himself; if there is anything left over, (let him give it) to his dependents; if there is anything left over, (let him give it) to his relatives; and if there is anything left over, (let him give it) here and there".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous with your wealth and resources; Take care of yourself first before you help others; Look out for your loved ones before you look out for strangers or those who are not related to you in any way

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Jabir encourages people to be generous with their wealth. The Prophet Muhammad said that if someone is poor, they should start by helping themselves first. If there is anything left over after that, they should give it away to their dependents such as family members or close friends. If there is still something left after that, then the person can give it away here and there in charity or other forms of giving. This hadith teaches us the importance of being generous with our wealth and resources while also taking care of ourselves first before we help others. It also shows us the importance of looking out for our loved ones before we look out for strangers or those who are not related to us in any way.
