EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encouraged people to fast on the day of 'Ashura'. This is a special day in Islamic history as it marks many important events. It is believed that Allah saved Musa and his followers from Pharaoh by parting the Red Sea. Additionally, it is also believed that Allah accepted Adam's repentance and forgave him for his sins on this day. Therefore, fasting on this day has been recommended by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as an act of gratitude towards Allah for His mercy and blessings. By fasting we can remember these great events in Islamic history and be thankful for all that Allah has given us.
