QUICK LESSONS:
Fast during Ramadan if you are able to do so .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that before the month of Ramadan was prescribed, Muslims were required to fast on the day of 'Ashura'. However, once fasting in Ramadan became mandatory, it became optional for one to fast on 'Ashura' or not. This teaches us that Allah is merciful and understanding; He does not burden us with more than we can handle. We are given options and choices so that we can choose what works best for us and our situation. It also teaches us to be mindful of our obligations towards Allah; if something becomes obligatory upon us then we should fulfill it without hesitation or delay.
