Punishment for Stealing Camels

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) punished those who stole his camels by cutting off their hands and feet and gouging out their eyes with fire. Allah then revealed a verse to him, reprimanding him for this action.

It was narrated from Abu Az-Zinad that: The Messenger of Allah SAW had the (hands and feet) of those who drove off his camels cut off, and their eyes gouged out with fire. Allah rebuked him for that, and Allah, Most High, revealed the entire verse: "The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about the punishment that was given to those who stole the camels of Prophet Muhammad SAW. According to the hadith, they were punished by having their hands and feet cut off and having their eyes gouged out with fire. Allah then revealed a verse reprimanding the Prophet SAW for this action, reminding him that it is not up to humans to decide punishments but rather it is up to Allah alone. This teaches us that we should not take matters into our own hands when someone wrongs us but instead leave it in God's hands as He will be just in His judgement. We should also remember that no matter how much someone wrongs us, we must still treat them with kindness as revenge is never an acceptable option according to Islam.
