Kindness and Understanding in Disputes

SUMMARY: The Prophet showed kindness and understanding when two women were in a dispute over a dish.

It was narrated from Umm Salamah that she brought some food in a dish of hers to the Messenger of Allah and his Companions, then 'Aishah came, wrapped up in a garment, with a stone pestle and broke the dish. The Prophet gathered the broken pieces of the dish and said: "Eat; your mother got jealous," twice. Then the Messenger of Allah took the dish of 'Aishah and sent it to Umm Salamah and he gave the dish of Umm Salamah to 'Aishah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be kind & understanding while resolving disputes between people

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's exemplary behavior when two women were in a dispute over a dish. Umm Salamah brought some food to the Prophet and his companions, but then 'Aishah came with her own dish. To resolve the situation, the Prophet gathered up all of the broken pieces of Umm Salamah's dish and said "Eat; your mother got jealous," twice. He then took 'Aishah's dish and gave it to Umm Salamah instead. This hadith teaches us that we should always be kind and understanding when dealing with disputes between people. We should try our best to find solutions that are fair for everyone involved without taking sides or getting angry at anyone involved in the disagreement. It also shows us how important it is to show respect for others even if they are not related to us by blood or marriage - as demonstrated by how he referred to 'Aishah as "your mother" even though she was not related to him biologically or through marriage ties.
