The Unacceptability of Bad Examples

SUMMARY: It is not appropriate to leave bad examples, and taking back a gift is considered an undesirable act.

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'It does not befit us to leave bad examples. The one who takes back his gift is like the dog which goes back to its vomit'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Set good examples for others; Be generous with your gifts; Respect other's gifts; Do not take them back after giving them away.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of setting good examples for others. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) warned against leaving bad examples, as this can lead to negative behavior in society. He also compared taking back a gift to the dog which goes back to its vomit, implying that it is an undesirable act. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to set good examples for others and be generous with our gifts without expecting anything in return. We should also remember that taking back a gift after giving it away can have negative consequences on our reputation and relationships with others.
