Sunan an-Nasai 3672 (Book 31, Hadith 1) #18286
Treating Children Equally

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) advised a man to not give preferential treatment to one of his children over the others.

It was narrated from An-Nu'man bin Bashir that his father gave him a slave as a present, then he came to the Prophet to ask him to bear witness (to that). He said: "Have you given a present to all of your children?" He said: "No". He said: "Then take it back". This wording is that of (one of the narrators) Muhammad.

QUICK LESSONS:
Treat your children equally by giving them equal love and attention; strive for justice in parenting; be responsible with how you raise your kids; make sure each child feels appreciated in their own right.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about treating all of your children equally and not giving preferential treatment to one child over the others. It was narrated from An-Nu'man bin Bashir that his father gave him a slave as a present, then he came to the Prophet (PBUH) to ask him to bear witness. The Prophet asked if he had given presents to all of his children and when he said no, the Prophet told him take it back. This teaches us that we should treat our children equally and not give special gifts or privileges only for one child while neglecting the other siblings. We should strive for justice and fairness in our parenting so that each child feels loved and appreciated in their own right.
