Bequeathing Money to Heirs

SUMMARY: The Prophet advised Sa'd to bequeath one-third of his money to his heirs, as it is better than leaving them poor and dependent on others.

It was narrated that Sa'd said: "The Prophet came to visit me when I was in Makkah. I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I bequeath all my money?' He said: 'No'. I said: 'One-half?' He said: 'No'. I said: 'One-third?' He said: '(Bequeath) one-third, and one-third is a lot. If you leave your heirs independent of means, that is better than if you leave them poor and holding out their hands to people'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Plan ahead , Provide for family's future needs , Find balance between materialism & spirituality

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of bequeathing money to one's heirs. The Prophet advised Sa'd not to leave all of his wealth behind, but rather a third of it. This way, the heirs will have enough money for their needs and won't have to depend on others for help. It teaches us that we should think ahead and plan for our families' future by providing them with enough resources so they can live comfortably after we are gone. We should also remember that leaving too much wealth behind can lead people astray and cause them harm in this life and the next. Therefore, it is important that we find a balance between providing our families with enough resources while still being mindful of their spiritual well-being.
