Sunan an-Nasai 3626 (Book 30, Hadith 16) #18240
Charity and Leaving Heirs Independent

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised a man to give one-third of his wealth in charity, as it is better to leave your heirs independent of means than to leave them poor and dependent on others.

It was narrated from 'Amir bin Sa'd that his father said: "I became ill with a sickness from which I later recovered. The Messenger of Allah came to visit me, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have a great deal of wealth and I have no heir except my daughter. Shall I give two-thirds of my wealth in charity?' He said: 'No'. I said: 'Half?' He said: 'No'. I said: 'One-third?' He said: '(Give) one-third, and one-third is a lot. It is better to leave your heirs independent of means, than to leave them poor and holding out their hands to people'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Give away some wealth in charity; Use your blessings from Allah for good causes; Think ahead and plan your finances wisely; Leave your heirs independent instead of leaving them poor and dependent on others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of charity and leaving one's heirs independent. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised a man who was ill that if he had a great deal of wealth, he should give one-third of it in charity. This is because it is better for the heirs to be independent rather than poor and having to depend on others for their needs. Giving away some wealth in charity can help ensure that the heirs are not left destitute after their parent's death. It also teaches us about being generous with our wealth, as Allah has blessed us with it so we can use it for good causes such as helping those who are less fortunate than us. Furthermore, this hadith encourages us to think ahead and plan our finances wisely so that our families will be taken care off even after we have passed away from this world.
