Giving Charity at the End of Life

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) compared the act of giving charity or freeing a slave when one is dying to a man who gives a gift after he has eaten his fill.

Abu Habibah At-Ta'i said: "A man made a will leaving some Dinars (to be spent) in the cause of Allah. Abu Ad-Darda' was asked about that, and he narrated that the Prophet said: 'The likeness of the one who frees a slave or gives some charity when he is dying, is that of a man who gives a gift after he has eaten his fill'."

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity generously; Free slaves if you can; Be kind and compassionate towards those less fortunate than yourself; Spend your wealth in good causes for Allah's sake; Make sure your last will includes spending money in good causes for Allah's sake .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abu Habibah At-Ta'i speaks about the importance of giving charity and freeing slaves when one is close to death. It compares this act to that of someone who gives a gift after they have eaten their fill, implying that it is an even greater act than simply giving something away out of abundance. This hadith teaches us that we should be generous with our wealth and possessions, even if we are in need ourselves, as it will bring us closer to Allah and benefit us in both this life and the hereafter. Furthermore, it encourages us to free slaves if we are able, as this was an important part of Islamic culture during the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
