Sunan an-Nasai 3613 (Book 30, Hadith 3) #18227
The Transience of Wealth

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of not getting too caught up in the pursuit of wealth and material possessions, as these will eventually be gone.

It was narrated from Mutarrif, from his father, that the Prophet said: "The mutual rivalry (for piling up of worldly things) diverts you, 'Until you visit the graves (ie till you die)'. The son of Adam says: 'My wealth, my wealth,' but your wealth is what you eat and consume, or what you wear and it wears out, or what you give in charity and send on ahead (for the Hereafter)'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith reminds us that our worldly possessions are fleeting; they will eventually be gone. We should not become too attached to them or get caught up in trying to acquire more than we need. Instead, we should focus on consuming responsibly and giving charity for the sake of Allah so that we can benefit in this life as well as the hereafter. Additionally, this hadith teaches us to think beyond our own needs by sending good deeds ahead for ourselves in preparation for when we die.
