SUMMARY: The Prophet gave permission to a woman whose husband had died to stay in her house for four months and ten days.

Furai'ah bint Malik, the sister of Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri, said: "My husband died in Al-Qadum, so I went to the Prophet and told him that our house was remote". He gave her permission then he called her back and said: "Stay in your house for four months and ten days, until the term prescribed is fulfilled".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman named Furai’ah bint Malik, who was the sister of Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri. Her husband had passed away in Al-Qadum, so she went to the Prophet and asked for his permission to leave her house as it was remote. The Prophet gave her permission but then called her back and told her that she should stay in her house for four months and ten days until the term prescribed is fulfilled. This hadith teaches us that when someone passes away, there is an expected period of mourning which must be observed by staying at home during this time period. It also shows us how compassionate and understanding our beloved Prophet was towards those who were grieving or suffering from any kind of loss or hardship.
