Sunan an-Nasai 3436 (Book 27, Hadith 48) #18048
Inviting Guests with Respect

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad had a Persian neighbor who invited him to come over, but the Prophet asked if his wife Aisha could come too.

It was narrated that Anas said: "The Messenger of Allah had a Persian neighbor who was good at making soup. He came to the Messenger of Allah one day when 'Aishah was with him, and gestured to him with his hand to come. The Messenger of Allah gestured toward 'Aishah -meaning: 'What about her?'- and the man gestured to him like this, meaning, 'No,' two or three times".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be respectful when inviting guests into your home; Make sure everyone is included; Maintain good relationships with your neighbors; Benefit from each other's company in a respectful manner.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith highlights the importance of respect and good neighborly relationships in Islam. It was narrated by Anas ibn Malik that the Prophet Muhammad had a Persian neighbor who was good at making soup. One day, this man came to invite the Prophet to his house for some soup, but he gestured towards 'Aishah -meaning 'What about her?'- and the man gestured back no two or three times. This shows us that it is important to be respectful when inviting guests into our homes, as we should always make sure that everyone is included and not left out. We should also strive to maintain good relationships with our neighbors so that we can benefit from each other's company in a respectful manner.
