Combining Dust and Smoke in a Muslim's Life

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught that a Muslim will never experience the dust of Allah's cause and the smoke of Hell at the same time.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet said: "The dust in the cause of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and the smoke of Hell will never be combined in the nostrils of a Muslim".
أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَرْعَرَةُ بْنُ الْبِرِنْدِ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ، عَنْ حُصَيْنِ بْنِ اللَّجْلاَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ ‏ "‏ لاَ يَجْتَمِعُ غُبَارٌ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَدُخَانُ جَهَنَّمَ فِي مَنْخَرَىْ مُسْلِمٍ أَبَدًا

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that as Muslims we should strive to be devoted to Allah’s cause and stay away from anything that could lead us to Hell. The Prophet Muhammad is teaching us here that if we are devoted to doing good deeds for Allah’s sake then we will not experience any suffering or pain associated with Hell. He is also reminding us that our actions have consequences and if we do not follow the teachings of Islam then it could lead us down a path towards punishment in the afterlife. This hadith encourages Muslims to stay on the right path by doing good deeds for Allah’s sake so they can avoid experiencing any suffering or pain associated with Hell.
