Serving Others While Not Fasting

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) praised those who were not fasting on a journey for their service to the group.

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: "We were with the Messenger of Allah on a journey, and some of us were fasting and some of us were not. We made a stop on a hot day and looked for shade. Those who were fasting fell to the ground, but those who were not fasting got up and watered the animals. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Those who were not fasting today have taken the reward"".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of serving others, even when one is not fasting. It was narrated by Anas bin Malik that he and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) were on a journey together, and some of them were fasting while some of them weren’t. On a hot day, they stopped to look for shade and those who were fasting fell to the ground while those who weren’t got up and watered the animals. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) praised those who weren’t fasting for their service to the group, saying that they had taken reward from Allah. This hadith teaches us that we should always be willing to help others in need, regardless of whether or not we are observing religious obligations such as fasting. We should also remember that Allah rewards us for our good deeds no matter how small they may seem.
