The Benefits of Taking Sahur Before Sunrise

SUMMARY: Taking Sahur before the sun rises is encouraged.

It was narrated that Zirr said: "We said to Hudhaifah: 'At what time did you take Sahur with the Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'It was daytime, but before the sun had risen". (Daif)
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ، قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا وَكِيعٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ زِرٍّ، قَالَ قُلْنَا لِحُذَيْفَةَ أَىَّ سَاعَةٍ تَسَحَّرْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَالَ هُوَ النَّهَارُ إِلاَّ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ لَمْ تَطْلُعْ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages Muslims to take their pre-dawn meal, known as sahur, before the sun rises. It was narrated by Zirr and Hudhaifah that they asked Hudhaifah when he took sahur with the Messenger of Allah. He said it was during daytime but before the sun had risen. This hadith teaches us that taking sahur is an important part of our faith and should be done before sunrise in order to gain its full benefits. Eating a healthy meal at this time can help us stay energized throughout our day and give us strength for worshiping Allah throughout the day. Additionally, it helps us practice self-discipline by waking up early in order to eat a nutritious meal which will benefit our bodies and souls alike.
