Greeting People with Peace & Mercy

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions Abu Bakr and Umar (RA) would greet people with peace and mercy whenever they went down, got up, stood or sat.

It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Al-Aswad from his father-and Alqamah-that: Abdullah said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah say the Takbir every time he went down and got up, or stood or sat; he said the Salam on his right and his left: 'As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatulah (peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah ),' until the whiteness of his cheek could be seen". He said: "And I saw Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah (SWT) be pleased with them both, doing the same".

QUICK LESSONS:
Greeting each other with peace & mercy .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of greeting people with peace and mercy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was known to greet people in this way every time he went down, got up, stood or sat. He would say “As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatulah” which means “peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah” until the whiteness of his cheek could be seen. His companions Abu Bakr and Umar also followed this practice as a sign of respect for others. This hadith teaches us that we should always greet each other with kindness no matter what situation we are in or who we are talking to. It is important to show respect for others by using kind words when speaking to them so that everyone can feel welcomed in our presence.
