Sahih al-Bukhari 1614, 1615 (Book 25, Hadith 100) #1551
The Significance of Tawaf in Hajj-al-Qiran

SUMMARY: This hadith explains the importance of performing Tawaf of the Ka'ba as part of Hajj-al-Qiran and how it was done by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and later by Abu Bakr and Umar.

Narrated 'Urwa: 'Aisha said, "The first thing the Prophet did on reaching Mecca, was the ablution and then he performed Tawaf of the Ka'ba and that was not 'Umra (alone), (but Hajj-al-Qiran)'.Urwa added: Later Abu Bakr and 'Umar did the same in their Hajj". And I performed the Hajj with my father Az- Zubair, and the first thing he did was Tawaf of the Ka'ba. Later I saw the Muhajirin (Emigrants) and the Ansar doing the same. My mother (Asma') told me that she, her sister ('Aisha), Az-Zubair and such and such persons assumed Ihram for 'Umra, and after they passed their hands over the Black Stone Corner (of the Ka'ba) they finished the Ihram. (ie After doing Tawaf of the Ka'ba and Sa'i between Safa-Marwa.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of performing Tawaf around the Ka’bah as part of Hajj al Qiran. It is narrated that when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ arrived in Mecca for his pilgrimage, he performed ablution followed by a tawaf around the Ka’bah. Later on, Abu Bakr and Umar also did this during their pilgrimage to Mecca. Similarly, when ‘Urwa’s father Az Zubair went for his pilgrimage to Mecca he also performed tawaful first before anything else. Furthermore, it is narrated that when Asma’ her sister Aisha along with other people assumed Ihram for Umrah they passed their hands over the Black Stone Corner after doing tawaful at the Ka’bah and then finished their Ihram after Sa’i between Safa Marwah. This hadith highlights how important it is to perform tawaful at the beginning of any kind of pilgrimage or Umrah to show respect towards Allah SWT's house - The Holy Ka'bah - which is considered one of Islam's holiest sites located in Makkah Al Mukarrama .
