Praying Two Prayers Together

SUMMARY: Ibn 'Abbas prayed Zuhr and 'Asr together, as well as Maghrib and 'Isha' together, due to being busy. He also prayed Zuhr and 'Isha' with the Messenger of Allah in Al-Madinah, eight Rak'ahs with nothing in between.

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that he prayed Al-Uula (Zuhr) and 'Asr together in Al-Basrah with nothing in between them, and he prayed Maghrib and 'Isha' together with nothing in between them. He did that because he was busy and Ibn 'Abbas said that he had prayed Zuhr and 'Isha' together with the Messenger of Allah in Al-Madinah, eight Rak'ahs with nothing in between.

QUICK LESSONS:
Combine two prayers if you have a valid reason such as being too busy or travelling long distances

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about combining two prayers into one prayer due to being busy or having a valid excuse. Ibn ‘Abbas was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad who reported that he had combined two prayers into one on multiple occasions due to being busy or having a valid excuse. He also reported that he had done this with the Prophet Muhammad himself in Madinah, praying eight rak’ahs without anything in between them. This teaches us that it is permissible to combine two prayers if we have a valid reason for doing so such as being too busy or travelling long distances. However, it should be noted that combining two prayers should not become an everyday habit; rather it should only be done when necessary and when there is no other option available for performing both prayers separately at their respective times.
