Allowing Women to Leave Hajj After Menstruation

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) allowed a woman to leave the Hajj pilgrimage after she began menstruating.

It was narrated from 'Aishah that she said to the Messenger of Allah : "Safiyyah bint Huyai began menstruating". The Messenger of Allah said: "Perhaps she has detained us. Did she not circumambulate the House with you?" She said: "Yes". He said: "Then you can leave".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) permission for a woman named Safiyyah bint Huyai to leave the Hajj pilgrimage after she began her menstrual cycle. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked Aishah if Safiyyah had already circumambulated the House of Allah and when Aishah confirmed that she had, he gave her permission to leave. This hadith teaches us that women are not required to complete their pilgrimage if they begin their menstrual cycle during it and that they can still be considered as having completed it even if they do not finish all of its rituals. It also shows us how compassionate and understanding the Prophet Muhammad was towards women in particular.
