Praying During Istihadah

SUMMARY: A woman asked the Prophet ﷺ about her Istihadah and he advised her to stop praying for the number of days and nights that she used to menstruate, then perform Ghusl, wrap a cloth around herself, and pray.

It was narrated that Umm Salamah said: "A woman asked the Prophet : 'I suffer from Istihadah and I never become pure; should I stop praying?' He said: 'No. Stop praying for the number of days and nights that you used to menstruate, then perform Ghusl, wrap a cloth around yourself, and pray'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a woman who asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about her condition of Istihadah. Istihadah is when a woman experiences bleeding outside of her menstrual cycle. The Prophet ﷺ advised this woman not to stop praying but instead take a break from prayer for the same amount of time as she would during menstruation. After that time has passed, she should perform Ghusl which is ritual washing before prayer, wrap a cloth around herself and then pray. This hadith teaches us that even if we are not in our best physical state or condition we should still strive to practice our faith by performing acts such as prayer with cleanliness and modesty. It also teaches us that it is important to seek knowledge from reliable sources such as scholars or religious leaders when we have questions regarding our faith or religion so that we can practice it correctly according to Islamic teachings.
