Sahih Muslim 2681a (Book 48, Hadith 13) #13890
Refraining from Calling for Death

SUMMARY: Khabbab, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was willing to call for death due to his suffering, but refrained from doing so because the Prophet had forbidden it.

Abu Hazim reported: I visited Khabbab who had seven cauterizes on his stomach and he said: Had Allah's Messenger not forbidden us to call for death, I would have done so.

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's commands even in times of difficulty & pain

EXPLANATIONS:
Khabbab was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad who had suffered greatly and had seven cauterizes on his stomach. Despite this immense suffering, he still chose to obey Allah and His Messenger by not calling for death. This teaches us that even in times of great difficulty and pain, we should remain patient and obedient to Allah's commands. We should never forget that Allah is All Knowing and All Wise; He knows what is best for us even if we cannot understand it at the time. Furthermore, this Hadith also serves as a reminder that life is precious; no matter how difficult our situation may be, we must never wish or call for death as it is something only Allah can decide upon.
