Sahih Muslim 2659a (Book 46, Hadith 40) #13835
The True Nature of Birth

SUMMARY: Every person is born with a true nature, and it is their parents who decide what religion they will follow. Mary and her son Jesus were not affected by Satan when they were born.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger as saying: The mother of every person gives him birth according to his true nature. It is subsequently his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Magian. Had his parents been Muslim he would have also remained a Muslim. Every person to whom his mother gives birth (has two aspects of his life) ; when his mother gives birth Satan strikes him but it was not the case with Mary and her son (Jesus Christ).

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect your parent’s decisions, Strive for purity from evil influences in life .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that every person is born with a true nature, which cannot be changed. It is the parents who decide what religion the child will follow, but this does not change the child's original nature. The hadith also mentions that Mary and her son Jesus were not affected by Satan when they were born, unlike other people. This implies that Mary was an especially pure woman whose faith was so strong that even Satan could not affect her or her son at birth. This hadith teaches us to respect our parents' decisions while still staying true to our own beliefs and values in life. We should also strive to be like Mary in terms of faith and purity so we can protect ourselves from evil influences in life.
