Sahih Muslim 2658g (Book 46, Hadith 39) #13834
Innate Nature of Children

SUMMARY: The hadith explains that a child is born with an innate nature and it is the parents who decide their religion.

Abu Huraira reported from Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) many ahadith and one amongst them is that he is reported to have said: An infant is born according to his (true) nature. It is his parents Who make him a Jew, a Christian, just as a she-camel gives birth to its young ones. Do you find any deficiency in their limbs? You cut their ears (i. e. after birth). They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet) said: What is your opinion about him who dies in infancy? Thereupon Allah's Apostle said: It is Allah alone Who knows best what they would be doing.

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect all religions equally; Be kind towards your children; Nurture your kids with love .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that a child is born with an innate nature and it is the parents who decide their religion. It also suggests that all children are born equal and without any deficiency in their limbs. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ further states that only Allah knows what happens to those who die in infancy as they have not been given the chance to choose their own faith or beliefs yet. This hadith teaches us to respect all religions equally and not judge people based on their faith or beliefs as everyone has the right to choose for themselves what they believe in. It also encourages us to be kind towards our children and nurture them with love so they can grow up into responsible adults who are aware of different faiths and cultures around them.
