Sahih al-Bukhari 1429 (Book 24, Hadith 32) #1372
The Virtue of Giving

SUMMARY: Giving is better than receiving, and it is better to give than to ask for help.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: I heard Allah's Messenger (pbuh) while he was on the pulpit speaking about charity, to abstain from asking others for some financial help and about begging others, saying, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand is that of the giver and the lower (hand) is that of the beggar".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give generously when you can; Respectfully ask for help when needed; Be humble when asking for assistance; Appreciate those who give you charity; Do not feel ashamed or embarrassed about asking for help if needed.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Ibn 'Umar, speaks about the virtue of giving charity and avoiding asking for help from others. It emphasizes that giving is more rewarding than receiving and that it is better to be generous with one's wealth rather than begging from others. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that the upper hand belongs to the giver while the lower hand belongs to the beggar. This means that those who are able to give should do so willingly as they will receive a greater reward in return. On the other hand, those who are in need should not be ashamed or embarrassed about asking for help as long as they do so respectfully and humbly. In this way, both parties can benefit from each other's generosity and kindness.
