Mortality of Humans

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the mortality of humans and how none of the Companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will survive after 100 years.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported that Allah's Messenger said: None amongst the created beings (from my Companions) would survive after one hundred years. Salim said: We made a mention of it to him (Jabir), whereupon he said: It means those who had been living on that day.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the mortality of humans and how none of us will live forever. It was narrated by Jabir b. 'Abdullah that Allah's Messenger said that none amongst the created beings from his companions would survive after one hundred years. Salim then clarified that this meant those who were living on that day and not necessarily all his companions in general. This hadith serves as a reminder to us all to make use of our time here on earth wisely as we do not know when our time will come up or when we will be taken away from this world. We should strive to do good deeds and help others while we are still alive so that we can leave behind a legacy for generations to come!
