Divine Retribution for Abu Lahab's Words

SUMMARY: The hadith is about how Allah revealed a verse in the Quran to curse Abu Lahab for his words against the Prophet (pbuh).

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas.: Abu Lahab, may Allah curse him, once said to the Prophet (pbuh), "Perish you all the day". Then the Divine Inspiration came: "Perish the hands of Abi Lahab! And perish he!" (111:1).
حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا الأَعْمَشُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو لَهَبٍ ـ عَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ ـ لِلنَّبِيِّ تَبًّا لَكَ سَائِرَ الْيَوْمِ‏.‏ فَنَزَلَتْ ‏{‏تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ‏}‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Allah revealed a verse in the Quran to curse Abu Lahab for his words against the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas that Abu Lahab said something disrespectful to the Prophet ﷺ and then Allah responded with a verse from the Quran cursing him. This shows us that no one can disrespect or harm His Messenger without facing consequences from Allah. We should always remember that we must respect and honour our beloved prophet ﷺ at all times as it is an obligation upon us as Muslims. We should also be aware of our actions and words because we will be held accountable for them on Judgement Day.
