Inviting People To Testify And Teaching About Prayers And Zakat

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) sent Mu'adh to Yemen and instructed him to invite the people to testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that he is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). He also instructed Mu'adh to teach them about the five daily prayers and Zakat.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet sent Mu'adh to Yemen and said, "Invite the people to testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and I am Allah's Messenger , and if they obey you to do so, then teach them that Allah has enjoined on them five prayers in every day and night (in twenty-four hours), and if they obey you to do so, then teach them that Allah has made it obligatory for them to pay the Zakat from their property and it is to be taken from the wealthy among them and given to the poor".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Prophet Muhammad's instructions for Mu'adh when he was sent on a mission to Yemen. The Prophet asked him to invite people there to testify that none has the right of worship except Allah, and that he is Allah's Messenger. He also asked him to teach them about their five daily prayers, which are obligatory upon all Muslims, as well as paying zakat from their wealth. Zakat is a form of charity given by those who have wealth in order for it be distributed among those who are less fortunate. This hadith teaches us about our obligations towards God, such as testifying His Oneness and worshipping Him alone, as well as our obligations towards others such as praying regularly and giving charity generously. It also shows us how important it is for us Muslims not only practice these teachings ourselves but also spread them among others so they can benefit from them too.
