Sahih Muslim 2304a (Book 43, Hadith 56) #13081
Judgement Based on Actions

SUMMARY: This hadith is about how Allah will judge people based on their actions after the Prophet's death.

Anas b. Malik reported Allah's Apostle as saying: Some persons from amongst my associates would turn to my Cistern; when I would see them and they would be presented to me, they would be detained in the way while coming to me. I would say: My Lord, they are my companions, they are my companions, and it would be said to me: You don't know what innovations they made after you.

QUICK LESSONS:
Do good deeds , Follow Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) during his lifetime .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the judgement that Allah will pass upon people after the death of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It explains that some of his companions may be prevented from entering Paradise due to innovations they made after his passing away. This means that even though they were close to him and followed him during his lifetime, their actions afterwards will still be judged by Allah and if found wanting, they may not enter Paradise. The lesson here is that one should always strive to do good deeds and stay away from any kind of innovation or sin as it can lead to punishment in the hereafter.
