Sahih al-Bukhari 1363, 1364 (Book 23, Hadith 116) #1308
The Consequences of False Oaths and Suicide in Islam

SUMMARY: Intentionally swearing falsely by a religion other than Islam and committing suicide are both considered sins in Islam.

Narrated Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak: The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Whoever intentionally swears falsely by a religion other than Islam, then he is what he has said, (eg if he says, 'If such thing is not true then I am a Jew,' he is really a Jew). And whoever commits suicide with piece of iron will be punished with the same piece of iron in the Hell Fire". Narrated Jundab the Prophet said, "A man was inflicted with wounds and he committed suicide, and so Allah said: My slave has caused death on himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of false oaths and suicide according to Islamic teachings. It is narrated by Thabit bin Ad-Dahhak that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "Whoever intentionally swears falsely by a religion other than Islam, then he is what he has said." This means that if someone says something like "If such thing is not true then I am a Jew," they will be considered as a Jew. Additionally, it was narrated by Jundab that the Prophet ﷺ said, "A man was inflicted with wounds and he committed suicide, and so Allah said: My slave has caused death on himself hurriedly, so I forbid Paradise for him". This shows that committing suicide is also considered as a sin in Islam. Therefore this hadith teaches us to be careful with our words and actions as they can have serious consequences according to Islamic teachings.
