Sahih Muslim 2202 (Book 39, Hadith 91) #12829
Seeking Refuge with Allah and His Power

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how to seek refuge with Allah and His Power from the evil that one finds and fears.

Uthman b. Abu al-'As Al-Thaqafi reported that he made a complaint of pain to Allah's Messenger that he felt in his body at the time he had become Muslim. Thereupon Allah's Messenger said: Place your hand at the place where you feel pain in your body and say Bismillah (in the name of Allah) three times and seven times A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru (I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that I find and that I fear).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us about the power of prayer in seeking refuge from any harm or evil that we may find or fear. It is narrated by Uthman b. Abu al-'As Al-Thaqafi, who made a complaint of pain to Allah's Messenger, upon whom be peace, at the time he had become Muslim. In response, Allah's Messenger instructed him to place his hand at the place where he felt pain in his body and recite Bismillah three times followed by A'udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru seven times. By doing this, it is believed that one can seek refuge with Allah and His Power from any evil they find or fear in their life. This hadith encourages us to turn towards prayer as a means of protection against any harm we may face in our lives as Muslims.
