This hadith is about how Muslims should respond when greeted by people from other faiths. The Companions asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ how they should reciprocate when greeted by people from other religions, such as Jews and Christians. He instructed them to say “Wa 'Alaikum” which means “and upon you too” in Arabic. This teaches us that we should be polite and respectful towards those who are different than us, even if we do not share their beliefs or practices.
