Sahih Muslim 2127c (Book 37, Hadith 188) #12673
Cheating Through Artificial Hair

SUMMARY: This hadith is about Mu'awiya warning people against adding artificial hair, which was a practice of the Jews, and how Allah's Messenger disapproved of it.

Sa'id b. Musayyib reported: Mu'awiya came to Medina and he addressed us and he took out a bunch of hair and said: What do I see that one of you does but that what the Jews did? (I can well recall) that when this act (adding of artificial hair) reached Allah's Messenger , he named it as cheating.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic teachings, avoid practices from other religions or cultures if they are not approved by Allah's Messenger

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, Mu'awiya came to Medina and warned people against adding artificial hair, which was a practice of the Jews. He showed them a bunch of hair as an example and said that Allah's Messenger disapproved of it and called it cheating. This hadith teaches us that we should not follow practices from other religions or cultures if they are not approved by Allah's Messenger because they can be considered cheating or wrong in some way. We should also be careful to only do things that are allowed in Islam so we don't end up doing something wrong without knowing it.
