Sahih al-Bukhari 1236 (Book 22, Hadith 14) #1192
Following the Imam in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) taught that the Imam should be followed in prayer and that people should bow and raise their heads when the Imam does.

Narrated 'Aisha the wife of the Prophet: Allah's Messenger during his illness prayed in his house sitting, whereas some people followed him standing, but the Prophet beckoned them to sit down. On completion of the prayer he said, "The Imam is to be followed. So, bow when he bows, and raise your head when he raises his head". .

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow an imam during prayer by bowing and raising your head when he does

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about following an Imam during prayer. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that when an Imam is leading a prayer, those who are praying should follow him by bowing and raising their heads when he does. This means that everyone who is praying should do what the Imam does at the same time as him. This hadith also teaches us to respect authority figures such as Imams and to listen to them carefully so we can learn from them. It also teaches us to be unified in our prayers so we can all pray together as one group with one voice. Finally, it reminds us of how important it is for Muslims to pray together in congregation rather than alone at home or elsewhere.
